Roberto E. Quintal, M.D.
119th president of the Orleans Parish Medical Society

Dr. Roberto E. Quintal became the 119th president of the Orleans Parish Medical Society at the 128th installation on January 26, 2006 held in conjunction with the OPMS Council of Governors meeting. A member since 1986, Dr. Quintal began serving in OPMS leadership in 2002 when he became a member of the Council of Governors.

Born in the Yucatan city of Merida, Dr. Quintal began his impressive academic career by earning a Medical Degree from the Universidad de Yucatan in 1975. He went on to complete a Masters Degree in Public Health and Tropical Medicine and a Ph.D from Tulane University in New Orleans. Upon completion of this scholastic training, Dr. Quintal began his Internal Medicine Residency at Tulane in August 1978. He completed a Fellowship in Cardiovascular Disease at Tulane University School of Medicine and Touro Infirmary from July 1981 to June 1983.

After working as a cardiologist at the Clinica de Merida for two years, Dr. Quintal joined Touro Infirmary in 1985, where he is still practicing as a staff cardiologist. Dr. Quintal has served in several leadership positions at Touro, including Medical Staff President, Chairman of the Department of Medicine, and Board of Governors member.

In addition to his Cardiology practice, Dr. Quintal is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at Tulane University School of Medicine and as Louisiana State University School of Medicine. He has been teaching medicine since 1983, when he served as a Clinical Assistant Professor at Tulane.

Dr. Quintal is a member of several professional associations including the American Medical Association, the American Heart Association, the Delta Omega Public Health Honor Society, and the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance. He is also a Fellow in the American College of Physicians, the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Chest Physicians and the American College of Angiology.
